Hair transplants are the new craze, not only for those who have lost their hair due to premature thinning, but also for those who want to change their hairlines or develop a more attractive mane. Is hair transplantation, however, truly safe and effective? Is it a long-term operation, or does it cause unintended tissue changes in the body? You might be having several questions regarding this & to provide you a better understanding Dr Harikiran will discuss everything about hair transplant along with some facts of hair transplant & hair transplant cost in Hyderabad.

What exactly is hair transplantation?

“It is a surgical procedure in which hair follicles are removed from some part of the body, such as the face or legs, and transplanted to the hairless region. The most recent techniques are permanent and pick up follicular hair clusters.” — Says Dr Audumbar Borgaonkar who is known for best hair transplant in Navi Mumbai. There are two ways to go about this. The first is Follicular Hair Transplantation (FUT), also known as strip harvesting, and the second is follicular unit extraction (FUE).

FUT or Strip harvesting

Strip harvesting involves planting skin strips with good hair growth on balding areas, while follicular unit extraction involves manually removing hair clusters with their roots and planting them at the hairless site. Currently, the majority of surgeons are using strip harvesting. It leaves a small scar at the donor site and guarantees a two-week healing time.

FUE

FUE may be performed in a single or several locations. It’s a manual, time-consuming method that yields very natural results and leaves no traces. It is a time-consuming and inefficient procedure for both the doctor and the patient. The use of robotics, on the other hand, has greatly shortened and simplified this operation.

Getting ready for the hair transplant

  1. Hair follicles from the back of the head are removed and transplanted to the balding areas in the first stage of hair transplant surgery.
  2. The hair in the donor region is shaved before the surgery.
  3. A local anesthetic is administered after the hair in the donor region has been shaved.
  4. The bald resistant hair follicles-containing tissue in the donor area is surgically removed, and the donor area is sutured.
  5. The donor area sutures are covered by the patient’s hair, which is combed over them. Almost ten days after the hair transplant operation, the sutures are removed.
  6. Surgical technicians then use microscopes to display the donor tissue in order to dissect and prepare follicular unit hair grafts.
  7. After the patient has been given local anaesthesia, the balding recipient region is prepared for the surgical procedure. Hair at the top of the recipient region does not need to be trimmed or removed.
  8. Follicular Unit Grafts are implanted in the recipient region by tiny incisions created in an irregular fashion.
  9. The smallest grafts (one and two) are put in front of the hairline, followed by three and four (which are denser than one and two).
  10. 10.The smallest grafts (one and two) are put in front of the hairline, followed by three and four (which are denser than one and two).
  11. 11.On the patient’s operated place, tiny incisions with short hair will be visible after the hair transplant operation.
  12. 12.The incision marks fade away on their own, and the redness in the recipient region fades away after a week.

Recovery Time

Hair transplantation is a non-invasive procedure that is often performed as an outpatient procedure. Patients are usually able to shampoo after two to three days, but the scalp must be covered from the sun and infections for a period of time after surgery. Antibiotics are usually given to the patients for a few days.

Must-Know Information

  • The transplanted hair behaves similarly to natural hair and sheds after two to four weeks. Following that, the roots begin to naturally sprout hair and continue to do so for the rest of one’s life.
  • Since local anaesthesia is used, the operation is painless, and the patient will return home the same day.
  • Hair transplant is distinct from non-surgical hair regeneration, in which a pre-selected base is dexterously applied to the scalp.
  • Hair transplantation does not guarantee a luxurious head of hair, as the outcome varies from person to person. It’s also related to the quality of a person’s natural hair.
  • Hair transplantation is not a viable option for any case of baldness. It is completely dependent on the circumstances.
  • The cost of the surgery is determined by the number of grafts used. The cost increases as the number of grafts increases.
